Breakfast at Tiffany’s

StarringAudrey Hepburn and George Peppard Score5

George Peppard, without the aid of the ‘A-team’ rescues Audrey Hepburn’s pussy cat from an allyway and they live happily ever after.

As sloppy love stories go, this is brilliant. The whole film just oozes style and Hepburn ignites as the feisty Holly Golightly. Only Paul (Peppard) sees past the eccentric socialite Holly to the scared and fragile woman she really is. But it’s not as if Paul doesn’t have issues of his own.

The subject matter is surprisingly strong: the ambiguity of Holly as socialite or escort, Paul as a kept man in return for ‘favours’. Mickey Rooneys appearance as the stereotype Japanese is by today’s standards embarrassingly racist. But … nothing detracts from this very, very stylish film.
