Once upon a time there were three very different women… now they work for me. My name is Kevin, sorry Charlie.
With lots of martial arts and hi-tech skills our three heroines uncover a double-cross plot to kill the elusive Charlie. The film opens with Dylan (Barrymore) throwing a terrorist with a bomb out of an airliner, falling past a helicopter out of which dives Alex (Liu) who between them remove the bomb with (obviously) seconds to spare, then re-grab the plummeting terrorist to parachute in the convenient speed boat piloted by Natalie (Diaz).
And so the film goes with action point to action point, effect to effect with barely enough plot to hold it together. And all in tight clothing and high-heels. Its glamorous fun. But don’t expect too much acting.
Which is a bit of a shame really. The idea of women taking on the action genre is an underserved one but its a pity it fell into the cheesiest cliches: it would have been more interesting to have females take on beating the baddies without the cliches. It could have made a nice franchise. This film works in a bubbly teenager kind of way and I guess that’s all it aims for. Look for Matt LeBlanc playing er… Joey.
