Its got swords, monsters, heros, villains and Gods. An absolute classic mostly because of the fantastic special stop-motion effects of Ray Harryhausen. The giant bronze Talos straddling the headland is one the most enduring images in cinema. It just goes to show even old (1963) special effects are more than special if they are used in a decent story-line.
As for story, Jason turns up in Greek Thessaly to claim the throne robbed from his father. He is advised to seek the mythical Golden Fleece at the ends of the earth. Assembling a crew and ship he sets off facing perils a plenty but aided by the goddess Hera (Honor Blackman no less) as part of her ‘game’ with Zeus.
I was chuffed to get this DVD for a fiver, well I remember crashing round my mates house as a kid (eight?) to watch this on Saturday TV and being really impressed. Still am.
