From the opening music and burning fuse you realise this film has a huge reputation to live up to, the original TV series was classic with well defined elements. Can a Hollywood blockbuster do it justice?

The film centres around Ethan Hunt (Cruise) who is framed for the death of his fellow team members whilst on an assignment. His personal mission: find out who really was responsible by breaking into CIA headquarters to obtain information to be used as bait to bring the real culprit out into the open. And all while being chased and blamed as a turncoat.

This is one of those rare Hollywood action movies with some real plot and plausible characters. You can see the film several times before finally piecing together the twists and turns. Along with some excellent special effects it manages to do some real justice to the TV series.

Shame that the sequel was so bad.
