In the mists of gaming time there was a game, “Star Raiders” and you bought the Atari 800XL to play it. Move on and you buy a Nintendo Gamecube to play Rogue Leader. From your first run down the trench to destroy the first Death Star your hooked. Fight your way though the missions to the final attack on the second Death Star and the adrenalin run through superstructure.
If you have ever wanted to fly an X-wing against swarms of TIE this is the game. More modern consoles or games probably have technically better graphics, but Rogue Leader looks just gorgeous and interspersed with video, cut sequences and sound from the film creates the immersive effect.
The game is very simple to play and control but hard to succeed at, and even when you’ve figured out how to destroy a Star Destroyer with just an X-wing you can’t resist trying again to get a better medal, or see how another type of ship will fare. Although there are only 10 main missions success brings bonus missions and new craft to try, and the missions can play differently depending on the real time of day extending the playability.
“lock s-foils, I’m going in!”
