Kidnap Churchill? Impossible. Or perhaps not… Colonel Steiner (Caine) leads German paratroopers in disguise on the astonishing plan which almost, almost succeeds.
Considering this was (I think) a made for TV movie the cast is really heavyweight:- Donald Pleasence plays a creepy Himmler, Larry Hagman a gung-ho american commander and Antony Quayle a German admiral among other famous faces. The glaring weak part is Jenny Agutter who seems wooden, though perhaps it’s the badly done ‘romance’ between herself as a 19 year old and the gamekeeper Liam Devlin (Sutherland) that spoils it. Its not a blood and glory WWII movie, more of a good thriller and it works all the better for it IMHO. Its not a great film, but it’s very solid nontheless and well worth the £3.99 I paid.
