The Incredibles

StarringCraig T. Nelson, Holly Hunter, and Jason Lee Score4

Bob Parr (Nelson) is trying to settle down as an insurance claims specialist following his former life as the superhero Mr. Incredible, after superheros were retired by the government. With wife Helen (Hunter) herself formerly Elastigirl and three children he tries to live the mundane life, but is finding it increasingly difficult to stay incognito.

So when a mysterious benefactor asks him to secretly resurrect his former superhero ways he jumps at the chance. But all is not as it seems and soon Bob’s family have to pull together and rescue him. If your looking for simply funny aka Shrek I think you’d be disappointed, the humour is more subtle and grown up. Elastigirl running past a mirror and stopping to see how big her bum looks in her new costume, the arguing kids, Bob venting his frustration on his boss by throwing him through several walls, and so on. The sly references to Bond movies and the superhero genre in general add some excellent touches.

The animation takes Pixar to new heights, it is just fantastic: the kind of movie you’d watch several times just to check it out. Add some deeply touching moments, positive philosophy about being true to yourself and you have a movie that is destined to be an animation classic.

“No matter how many times you save the world, it always manages to get back in jeopardy again. Sometimes I just want it to stay saved! You know, for a little bit? I feel like the maid; “I just cleaned up this mess! Can we keep it clean for… for ten minutes!”
