Terrible film. Appalling thin acting, no plot, cheesey dialogue. But for all that it works into a pop classic, with thumping soundtrack and fantastic red hot aerial dogfighting action.

I have to admit that being a plane geek, when I first saw the film I lost the plot inside 5 minutes ‘cos I recognised the supposed fictional enemy ‘MiG31’s as real Northrop F5’s with red stars painted on. And at the time there wasn’t a MiG31. “It’s the agressor squadron” I thought, “why are they getting so wound up? - they are on the same side” Took a moment to realise “Ah! they are just pretending to be MiGs”…

Anyway, if you can accept the film for what it is its a great deal of fun, but for me anyway, the planes are the real stars.
