Strange effects of study

I’ve had two recent laughs caused by my MSc study.

Y’see you become, if not expert, at least conversant with a very specific field. And sometimes, just sometimes something very obscure happens and you go “I know about that!” when most normal people wouldn’t….

Example one: watched an episode of the Simpsons where Lisa in the future is taunted to define the word “stochastic”. Clearly the writers deliberately chose a word that very few people would know. Lisa did. I did. OMG I’ve turned into Lisa Simpson!!

Example two: technology review posts articles about interesting and speculative science papers in brief simplified terms, but still very science based. Most of which I can get the gist of because of a Physics & Chemistry degree, but to be honest the gist is the best I can do. Except for this article which I could understand EXACTLY what they had done and how. YAY! I know about that!! Since actually knowing something is a rare occurrence, I celebrate them…
