On the plate

Despite no full-time job I’m feeling really pressed for time. I hope that’s good, but it will be nice to get some things done and off the list.

The bigger plan is to have a “portfolio career” which sounds very grand but really means juggling disparate bits to make ends meet. The current in-progress list:-

  • Explore using my decades of IT experience in a consultancy role earning enough to fund other activities. Sorting business cards, chamber of commerce advice, website ideas, networking.
  • Art classes, getting back to the arty side of me (I did A-level art). Currently six oil paintings in progress.
  • Sorting a PhD proposal to at least get it in the pipeline even though I might not be able to start.
  • Developing software code for a FOSS project (Gephi) as a karma thankyou for a useful tool during the MSc dissertation
  • Developing a program on Amazons EC2 to get some experience of cloud computing.
  • Project “Galactic” and a possible write-games-for-money avenue.
  • Day-a-week IT helpout at a friend’s business.
  • Re-laying front garden slabs after a rebuild of the garden wall.
  • Drawing a graphic novel - “Xenocide” - which seems to be involving lots of 3D human modelling.
  • Day-a-week volunteering at Warwickshire wildlife trust (though this seems to be getting squeezed)

And then there is the like-to-do, must-do (eg shopping, eating), further upcoming weddings. Really wish I could get things done faster….
