Doing the shopping at the local Asda and attempted to topup my mobile. Handed over my t-mobile card for them to swipe only for the till to crash. Stop completely, lock up, won’t reboot.
Wow! Such power. So the supervisor has to close the till (much to the chagrin of next customer who had unloaded onto the conveyor) and rescan my shopping on another till. The very apologetic supervisor was explaining that for reasons unknown, phone topup cards completely crash their tills and this has been going on for a month. Of course, inevitably a cashier forgets and brings the system down. While obviously not that serious, it does show how computers and IT are everywhere and like all such machines can fail for bizarre reasons. Perhaps I should start a blog site “IT fail” … I’ll start with this Asda incident and the car park ticket machine showing the Windows blue screen of death.
