What do I eat in a week?

The recent interactions with healthcare professionals has raised the inevitable questions on diet, exercise, smoking, alcohol. While I consider my diet fairly good, it’s easy to deceive yourself so I took of photo of everything eaten for a week.

I’m not sure any week is ‘typical’, some weeks have more salad or more protein (and even the rare takeaway) but this exemplar seems fair. There are a few naughties, mainly some stilton. There was also a seeded loaf this week, so there is toast on the menu. Bread tends to be occasional. The milk is semi-skimmed (fully skimmed is just white water.), there is sunflower spread, the salad is dressed with olive oil etc. Mornings are a bowl of porridge sweetened with sultanas.

Monday

Breakfast=Porridge.

Lunch=Toast.

Dinner=Didn’t feel very hungry so just the salad with apple and stilton and some baby potatoes in marge and garlic with a cheese slice melted over. Probably a bit too much cheese.

Tuesday

Breakfast=Porridge.

Lunch=Apple, some stilton and a mini-pork pie.

Dinner=Beans on toast.

Wednesday

Breakfast=Porridge (shock!)

Lunch=Toast with a bit of honey.

Dinner=Salad with apple and stilton. Cous cous (with some tabasco), and a tin of sardines. Chopped banana and apple with raisins and natural yogurt for afters.

Thursday

Breakfast=Porridge (what again?)

Lunch=Crumpets.

Dinner=Salad with apple and stilton, chicken rice and tin of mixed beans.

Friday

Breakfast=Porridge.

Lunch=Rice cakes with a smear of honey, apple and stilton.

Dinner=Pate on toast. Chopped banana and apple with sultanas and low fat greek lemon yogurt.

Saturday

Breakfast=Porridge.

Lunch=Toast.

Dinner=Slow cooker chilli and rice. The chilli is just kidney beans, chickpeas, black-eye beans, no mince. Sometimes I’ll make this with some quorn.

Sunday

Breakfast=Porridge.

Lunch=Celery with some spicy hummus to dip with, apple, and a mini pork pie.

Dinner=Baby leaf salad with grilled chicken in piri-piri sauce. Tin of fruit salad with custard.

There is also 1.5L of orange juice and 1L of banana milk over the week and a pack of fig biscuits for nibbles.

So overall a rather full fibre week. Not sure I’m hitting the five-a-day on every day but frankly I’m not sure I can eat that much. Despite daily exercise I still struggle to keep the weight off. The process of photographing all your food is also interesting - I tried not to make it influence my meals but it does make you very aware of the food so maybe a technique for those on a diet.
