Pint of Science is an annual world-wide festival where in a relaxed pub or cafe environment researchers present thier work to the general public.
The 2023 round took place in the local craft ale brewery so a very rare (for me) chance to sit with a tasty pint.
I attended on two of the three evenings, the first had an AI theme the second a chemistry theme. The presenters were generally good, and the information interesting and provocative. Being on topics I have some knowledge of they felt a bit too simplified for me, but getting the level right for a generalised audience is always going to be tough. Regardless they all managed to get some thinking going and a greater appreciation of the research progress in the subjects.
There is plenty of chance to ask questions and that creates a chance of winning a pint of science beer glass. And since I like asking questions I was awarded one on each night!
Overall these are great opportunities, its a shame more people are not aware of them.
