Postgraduate Diploma in Software Development

So its official. A letter arrives confirming I’ve completed the diploma (the taught courses bit). Apparently the thing now has to be formally conferred after which I can put PGDSoftDev(Open) after my name. Wow!, that will clear the room at a party in no time. Mind you given the amount of tea I drink PG(tips) would be more suitable.

It does feel a bit strange having started in summer 2006, which feels an eternity ago. While some of the courses have been more enjoyable than others, they have all contributed towards knowledge and got me thinking and exploring all manner of ideas and technologies. They have also created about a metres worth of book shelf in papers, course books and notes. Eventually it will all be boxed and archived (i.e. the loft) but at the moment they are the most tangible evidence of achievement.

Do I feel any achievement? No not really, with the M801 dissertation enrollment for the Msc starting there’s little time for that, things don’t yet feel ‘completed’. So onward it is then…

If I had any advice for others tackling years of study I’d suggest routine. Relying on feelings or enjoyment to keep going won’t really work ~ what will you do when its pressured, a drag and feelings aren’t there? Use those initial enthusiasms to create routine and success comes from just keeping going. Bit like life I guess.
