This series of pages is about a painting using the Flemish technique.
I was introduced to this technique by our art groups ‘old master’ and it involves creating the painting in distinct layers, each performing a particular ‘job’. While of course it’s impossible to really know how the old masters worked and materials have changed immensely, but this process does seem capable of impressive results.
So while, as a novice I don’t anticipate much it seemed like an interesting and methodical approach. Since each layer needs to dry properly before the next it’s also a bit of a long-winded one. Best to have a pipeline of paintings on the go…
I’m starting from this photo of a pink rose found using google image. I’ll be posting photos of the steps involved, which considering the outcome could be fairly sad is a brave step I think :)
